I'm working on my 2025 year-in-review post, and regrettably, I did not post last year or in 2023. The way I've gone about writing these reviews in the past is by browsing through my photo library to jog my memory of the events and adventures from the past year. 2024 was a really fun and meaningful year for me. Despite being a year late, I'm going to share some of my memories and photos before moving on to my 2025 post.

One of the big highlights in 2024 was doing literally a trip around the world. I started in Taipei, Taiwan for WordCamp Asia.

From Taipei, my next for-sure stop needed was a conference speaking engagement in Germany a couple weeks later. Instead of going home then doing another long-haul flight, I made an impromptu trip to Beijing, China. I learned that many countries' citizens can travel to China for less than 10 days without having to pre-apply for a visa, so I was able to make the visit on a bit of a whim.

From China, I flew to Switzerland, where I rented a car and drove into Germany for the conference. Then, I road-tripped quickly into Colmar, France, then to the Swiss Alps, finally finishing the trip in Paris, which I travelled to by train.

I got really interested in mushroom foraging at the beginning of 2024. I also messed my knee up pretty good on a snowboarding trip to Colorado, although it healed up just fine. My brother and I, along with our partners, and some friends, went to Las Vegas to see Dead & Company perform at the Sphere. Later in the year, I did a road trip to Portland for Word Camp US. I brought my mountain bike and my disc golf discs and tried to get as much mountain biking and disc golf in as I could on the way up and back. October 6th was memorable as my buddy Chris and I went to a 49ers game that was one of the hottest on record.

Tracie and I, along with a big group of friends, took an amazing trip down to Cancun, Mexico to see 3 nights of String Cheese Incident at an all-inclusive resort. For the 2024 solar eclipse, I booked a last-minute window seat on a plane that flew through the totality.

Last but not least, at the end of the year, my second cousins came out to visit from Illinois and West Virginia, and we had a lovely time with them showing them around and tagging along during their visit to California.
